Frites Atelier is seeking a larger location for its Utrecht restaurant

On 6 October, our Utrecht location at the Steenweg will serve fries for the final time

For our Atelier in Utrecht, we are looking for a new and more spacious location, which fits better with the Frites Atelier concept. This means that our Atelier in Utrecht continues to serve the most delicious fries up to 6 October and that, after this date, we are looking forward to welcoming lovers of gourmet fries in one of our other locations in the Netherlands and Belgium. Our goal is to realise a fast expansion of our chain of gourmet fries restaurants.

The Utrecht Frites Atelier opened its doors in 2016, and we now have several locations in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is our and Sergio Herman’s ambition to establish a chain of luxury gourmet fries restaurants where everyone can enjoy truly delicious and high-quality fries, home-made sauces, and artisan snacks. Frites Atelier was born out of the founders’ love for fries. After all, who doesn’t eat fries? There is nothing better than great fries with a delicious matching sauce.

All employees of Frites Atelier Utrecht have been informed. We care about organising the transition for them in the best possible way. That means that they were given the choice to accept another function within the Frites Atelier organisation or an alternative work offer in the Utrecht hospitality branch.

Pieter Munten, CEO of Frites Atelier, about the decision to close the Utrecht location: ‘The rational decision to close our location in Utrecht is partly based on the success of the Frites Atelier concepts in Ghent, Antwerp, and Brussels. Experience has taught us that the overall experience that we create all comes together in the larger locations. This decision was certainly not made overnight because we established a loyal and satisfied clientele in Utrecht. On the other hand, the results of our Belgian Ateliers show that a bigger seating area and a more extensive menu offer a healthier business case we want to build on. Our larger Belgian Ateliers have given us our perfect expansion model. Apart from that, the wider range of snacks on the menu allows Sergio Herman, our culinary brain, to make much better use of his creativity at our larger locations. With our Frites specials, he started a trend and we want to continue on this road with our snacks!’.

Frites Atelier opened 6 locations over the past 3 years, and we have a healthy ambition to grow over the coming years. That is why we are constantly on the lookout for new locations, both nationally and internationally. We expect to present the next new location shortly.

Frites Atelier evolved from our business founders’ love for French fries. Everyone eats fries: we believe that nothing is nicer than a delicious serving of fries or hot chips topped with a matching sauce. And who is the one you need to make the best fries ever? Exactly, star-rated Chef Sergio Herman. After more than 18 months of testing different potato varieties, researching soil types and other issues related to creating top quality fries, the time has finally arrived. The opening of the first Frites Atelier became reality in The Hague in 2016; Later more businesses were opened in Utrecht, Arnhem, Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels.

“My culinary adventure started when I took over my parents’ mussel restaurant. Driven by my passion for cooking, I took the Oud Sluis restaurant to the very highest of culinary levels; a 3-star Michelin rating. Since then, I have given myself a new culinary challenge: French fries. For more than one and a half years we tested and tasted potatoes with just one aim: to prepare beautiful, delicious fries with sensational toppings for you! Taste my delicious flavours in the world of Frites Atelier!”

At Frites Atelier we focus on taste, skills and craftsmanship. Frites Atelier evolved from a love for French fries. There is nothing more delicious than great French fries with an even better sauce. We only produce the very best of top quality fries with fresh homemade sauces and we serve finger licking specials. Of course, you can also come to us for delicious drinks, such as homemade iced tea to combine with the best ever fries.
